The Medical Assistant is an important component of the healthcare system. Medical assistants help keep medical offices and facilities running smoothly. They are multi-skilled as they perform a variety of clinical, administrative, and patient-centered duties.
According to the U. S. Department of Labor, the employment rate of medical assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average through the year 2023. As the Washington DC’s population continues to grow and age, and medicine continues to advance, this city will be no exception. Medical assisting will continue to be a high-demand field. The medical assistant training at Westlink will prepare you in the following areas:
- Administering injections
- Taking vital signs
- Assisting in minor surgery and emergency situations
- Processing insurance claims
- Transcription and computer billing
- Practical Externship (160 Hours)
Upon successful completion of these courses, you will participate in a practical externship. Your externship will be in a clinic, laboratory, physician’s office, or hospital. You and one other student will pair with a professional externship coordinator. The coordinator will evaluate your skills to help you train in a real-world setting.
Training Hours Required: (On-site Course 720 Hours) – (M-F 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM 40 Hours @ Week
